First night camping

Our first night camping was spent at Cimarron National Grassland. This place is located on the Kansas-Colorado border, that flat, eerie, area where nobody lives. This is the land where coyotes are the top predators, and roadrunners, sagebrush, and dying towns exist side by side. It scares you out of your wits and then alternately bores you to death. And we ended up camping in the middle of all that wilderness.

The campsite was located near the Santa Fe trail and was originally an oasis for early travelers on said trail. Stagnant ponds and cottonwood trees border where we set up our old tent. We forgot to move the tarp that protects the fragile bottom of the tent and now there are two small holes in the bottom of our shelter. We had a handy little water pump at our campsite too. This proved very useful when we did dishes that night.
